Major components of role: - Advising on industrial hygiene requirements for best practice and compliance in the areas of ventilation, noise, thermal stress, manual handling, vibration, radiation, biological substances, chemical management and fitness for work - Providing specialist advice on health and hygiene issues as they arise: asbestos management, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) management, noise control intervention, indoor air quality, dust management, biological hazard risk mitigation, carbon dioxide exposure monitoring, chlorine management - Collecting and interpreting occupational hygiene data to inform control strategies in order to protect worker health and improve business performance - Auditing of sites against Rio Tinto Health Performance Standards and legislative requirements and advising of Health / Hygiene Management System implementation - Formulation and rollout of site occupational hygiene training packages - Divisional technical document formulation - Thermal Stress Management Plan, Respiratory Protection Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Divisional PCB Management Plan, Annual Hygiene Summaries and Hygiene Sampling Plans - Identifying Health / Hygiene project initiatives for in-house implementation as a cost saving measure, working with Business Improvement team to capture these costs savings / avoidances - Promoting Health and Hygiene within the divisonal leadership team and site work groups

Role largely based around project delivery of occupational hygiene services for a variety of clients. Large projects included: - Provision of training and technical hygiene services (VOC, Benzene, Mercury, H2S monitoring and confined space entry atmospheric testing) to BP at their Kwinana refinery - Air quality monitoring and fibre counting during asbestos removals taking place on Department of Defence owned assets both within Western Australia and New South Wales - Assisting in producing baseline health and hygiene survey of employees working within Rio Tinto's Operations Centre - Contaminated site remediation for a variety of clients Consulting presented a challenging and fast-paced environment that provided exposure to a wide variety of clients and projects. Incorporating sound technical knowledge and people skills ultimately produced positive and value adding outcomes for my clients.
