I joined the US Navy in 2011 to serve my country and set myself up for success in the future. I signed up to become a Navy Hospital Corpsman and following basic training I attended initial Hospital Corpsman training at Ft. Sam Houston, following initial training I attended Behavioral Health Technician training. In October 2012 I was assigned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. While there I gained experience on the inpatient psychiatric ward for two years, then in a Psychiatric Intensive Outpatient Program, where I performed patient intake/screenings, taught psychoeducational courses and cognitive behavioral therapy principles. In 2015 I was deployed on the USNS Comfort to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America where I worked in two capacities, first as a behavioral health technician and second as a medical asset. Upon return to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, I was assigned to a leadership position on the inpatient psychiatric ward, where I was charged with managing daily operations, staffing, training, and career development. In 2016 I left Naval Medical Center Portsmouth for Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to attend Field Medical Service School (FMSS) in preparation for service within the US Marine Corps. After completing FMSS I was assigned to the 3D Marine Regiment, 3D Marine Division in Kaneohe, HI. My primary function within this unit was Operational Stress Control and Reaction (OSCAR), I was one of two Behavioral Health Technicians working under a psychiatrist and a psychologist, responsible for over 5,000 Marines and Sailors. Here I practiced psychological triage, psychological first aid, program management, psychological coaching, initial intake screenings, as well as the general medical skills expected of a Hospital Corpsman. In 2019 I was assigned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth as the Leading Petty Officer of the Mental Health Department, responsible for the operations of 9 outpatient programs. I was tasked with supervising day to day operations, managing personnel, career development, training and skill development, performance evaluation, and planning future operations for 38 personnel. I was also the Leading Petty Officer for the Navy Medicine East, Special Psychiatric Rapid Intervention Team (SPRINT). A Navy program that provides Psychological First Aid to personnel following disaster or traumatic events and is responsible for the eastern United States to the Middle East. In August 2021 I was given a position of higher authority as the Directorate of Mental Health Leading Petty Officer where I managed over 250 personnel.
