Percussion PerformanceDavid Lu is the Associate Principal Timpanist and a Section Percussionist of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he began in 2018. David has performed as Guest Principal Timpanist with a myriad of ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, Bay Atlantic Symphony, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Harbin Russo-Sino Orchestra, and Miami Summer Music Festival Orchestra; as a percussionist, he has performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, Ocean City Pops, and the Princeton Festival POPS! Orchestra. He has also performed in concert tour productions by Salute to Vienna, Video Games Live, The Indigo Girls, Evanescence, and Lindsey Stirling. As an educator, David Lu has worked with students of all ages, from elementary school through the university level and beyond in both group and private settings. He has been invited to and given masterclasses and clinics in the United States, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and South Korea, including presenting for the Percussive Arts Society's (PAS) "Day of Percussion" event. Presently, David is an inaugural educator for The Percussion Conservatory online platform, dedicated to providing high-quality percussion education media and content and educational scholarships for underprivileged students worldwide. He additionally works with Symphony in C's CPS education program as the percussion and music theory teacher, works with high school marching bands in the Philadelphia region, teaches for Play On Philly!, and maintains a busy private teaching studio in Philadelphia and Shanghai with a rising number of student successes.David previously earned his Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland School of Music, and earned his Bachelor of Music degree as a scholarship student at Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music & Dance. He has studied under the tutelage of Eric Shin, Jauvon Gilliam, Christopher Deviney, Phillip O'banion, and William Wozniak. His other teachers and mentors include Alan Abel, David Herbert, Sean Kennedy, Don Liuzzi, Anthony Orlando, and Xiong Zhou.
