I was responsible for construction safety culture as well as all environmental permit processes. I had to work closely with the state of South Carolina to apply for air and water permits. My role was to keep people from getting hurt and insure we had all environmental regulatory requirements covered. I supervised 2 construction safety supervisors, and I interacted with multiple layers of the Owens Corning organization. As the construction phase finished, I took responsibility for all EHS responsibilities for commissioning and start-up. That included root cause analysis, program development, training, auditing, and equipment approval. I also served as a liaison to all environmental regulatory agencies. When the plant was complete, I took on the role of the EHS & Security Leader for the facility. I worked for the Plant Manager. I developed and implemented all required EHS programs, management systems, and workers compensation processes. I managed the plant water treatment facility with 2 employees and lead all waste reduction initiatives. My job included supervising a 24/7 security team that monitored the facility. I also completed all required annual environmental reports for the state of South Carolina. -
Senior Ehs EngineerDuracell Inc. May 1995 - May 2000Chicago, Illinois, UsI started at Duracell as the plant’s Safety Engineer. As the Safety Engineer I was responsible for all elements of the safety culture program including root cause analysis, auditing, training, programs, and industrial hygiene. The facility operated 24 hours day - 7 days a week and I was the only safety representative on the site. During the 5 years I was at Duracell, the site expanded on all three sides without interruption. During these expansion periods, I was the Duracell Safety Representative for all construction safety and commissioning.After 3 years, the company restructured and eliminated the dedicated environmental engineer position at the site. With the realignment, I was promoted to an EHS Engineer where I was responsible for health, safety, and the environment. The environmental responsibilities for the plant were significant. As the EHS Engineer I also managed a water treatment facility that treated all process water. I was responsible for all environmental reporting for air, waste, and water. I supervised 3 full-time employees and 2 temporary employees. I also lead a “Safety Champion” program with over 75 employees representing all departments and shifts. After a year in the EHS Engineer’s role, I received a promotion to a Senior EHS Engineer. I also participated in corporate improvement processes, and I participated in corporate audits around the world. -
