I like to get to the bottom of things. To understand them. To look at it one way, then another; flip it top side to bottom, inside to out. And I know that even then, someone else will look at the same thing differently.I work as a financial analyst now, but started my early career years with a small, local marketing firm. At redlime, I learned the value of framing stories, communicating with external stakeholders, and developing strong interpersonal skills. At the time, I thought that the way I would apply these skills were unique to marketing - but they have aided me all through my career.Fast forward through working in oil and gas, to a cleantech industry alliance (yes, I know how it looks!), I now work at Canadian Pacific.At CP, I hit my stride working with a plethora of groups to deliver high profile capital projects, performing financial analyses on the benefits and costs of projects. Time management is absolutely key when everyone wants their money as quickly as possible, as is devotion to accuracy in making sure you carried the 1 before cutting the cheque. Building these financial models to support the numbers behind why something should be done is important - but being able to frame and use excellent written and oral communication skills to tell a story is arguably just as important.Now I work with the costing group, working closely with stakeholders to tell them exactly how much it costs to send a train from point A to point B, as well as reporting upwards on the efficiency of those trains. But not just how efficient - but why?As a finance graduate from the University of Calgary, I hold a wide range of professional experience, ranging from working at an Industry Alliance with the Pembina Institute, to carrying out marketing campaigns of a small local marketing firm to supporting the Treasury and Accounts Payable departments of a large Canadian Oil and Gas company, to where I am now with Canadian Pacific performing forporate finance.That being said, no good deed goes unwanted. I volunteer with the Calgary Food Bank, creating grocery hampers for those who need it, delivering them for curb-side pickup, sorting out what food is good to eat and what isn't. I volunteered extensively in university, and it was always something I wanted to continue doing after I graduated.I also love to read and write in my free time, squeezed between long distance running schedules and rock climbing with friends.
