A life-long, fourth-generation resident of Upper Michigan, my roots are deep and steadfast in my community. I am open to opportunities for freelance writing or editing that give me a chance to share my skills in a way that benefits and uplifts the community.I have 25 years experience in writing and editing both news and feature articles, as well as press releases, radio and television advertising scripts. I can create copy that's accurate, informative, entertaining and concise. I'm most familiar with AP style, but I'm flexible enough to adjust to your audience's needs. I work full-time in journalism and public relations, and have several years of experience in events management. I have been the director of a cultural community center for several years and currently supervise a staff of four. I have also managed international interns -- who work at the center for six-month intervals -- for more than a decade, not only supervising their work, but also aiding them as they navigate life and culture in a new country. I have a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and communications from Northern Michigan University and along with my decades of experience in print journalism I have a background in radio, television and other media.I'm passionate about my work and value the positive impact it can have on people, and I'm equally passionate about my family and my community. Along with my wife of 23 years (also a lifelong, multi-generational U.P. resident) we are raising two daughters, ages 16 and 12, and instilling in them the same values that we learned from our parents, and which have carried us throughout our lives. I'm actively involved in the many extracurricular opportunities my girls enjoy, including educational activities, arts-and-culture events, athletic endeavors, and community and civic engagements. My decades of experience have not only provided me ample opportunity to share my skills for the betterment of others, they have also allowed me to grow in ways beyond that, ways that can’t be expressed well on standard application materials. I have proven to be adaptable, quick to learn, capable of leadership while willing to accept direction, and always striving to improve not only my own situation but also that of others.
