Senior finance manager and FCCA with over 25 years of experience.Having worked my way up from an Assistant Accountant to Financial Controller level and beyond, I’ve covered most aspects of financial accounting along the way, including; financial reporting and control, working capital and treasury management, capital accounting, project management, budgeting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, VAT, charity accounts, accounting hierarchy design, finance system implementation and upgrades, investment appraisal, planning and financial modelling and much more.Despite my passion for numbers and process improvement, I am a people person and I like to think, a good manager. I know how important it is to motivate, lead and be a good team player.I like to lead by example and my management style is fairly relaxed and hands on. I believe this allows me to build better relationships and in turn, get the most from the teams I work with. This can also mean that it is possible to laugh while we are working together. If you are seeking an experienced senior finance professional/project manager who is committed to achieving results, is a conscientious worker and who enjoys a challenge, then please get in touch.

Having been invited back after providing consultancy services relating to the 2013/14 accounts and processes, this project was originally for three months to ensure the production of the 2014/15 annual accounts of the then newly merged Trust. The year-end accounting process went well and I was asked to continue providing services to the Trust in order to overcome some of the many issues that resulted from the merger and implementation of a new finance system. Particular projects included a review of the accounting hierarchy, reconciliation of opening balances following migration to the new finance system, review/redesign of control account reconciliations and ensuring that the 2015/16 annual accounts were completed to a high standard.

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Finance Committee this project was principally aimed at Finance Section performance issues and addressing some very critical internal audit reports. Deliverables included the improvement of cash-flow forecasting and management of debtors. Problems within the section were partly caused by low staff morale and a lack of knowhow, so team building, production of written procedure notes and implementing methods of reporting breaches in Standing Financial Instructions were important aspects of the project.

This was my third spell at this Trust and I had initially returned as a consultant to work on the trust’s long-term financial modelling. However after three months, I was invited to apply for the post of Assistant Director and worked tirelessly to raise standards of reporting and control to the high levels that existed when I was at the Trust previously. In this I had considerable success.
