Since being promoted to Project Director, I have helped lead Woolgar Hunter’s civils team which sees me responsible for all technical aspects of the infrastructure business across the UK to a diverse client base and across all market sectors. I have extensive experience in managing projects and heavily involved in SUDS and drainage design, which is always a challenge, to either minimise land take or accommodate the drainage within the sub structure of a building. My experience in designing site levels to optimise the cut/fill balance on a project has led to significant savings in the quantity of material leaving site or imported to site, which has realised both cost savings and environmental benefits. Key Projects Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, Glasgow (£21m) The challenging topography of the site has led to an extensive earthworks exercise, with the building being constructed into the sloping site. The external areas are fully landscaped with a series of seasonal gardens and the rear sloping area of the site has been utilised to provide a meandering walkway to sheltered viewing spaces. Buchanan Wharf (£Confidential) Buchanan Wharf is to become a vibrant place that provides an environment that invites people to engage and facilitates the range of activities associated with successful urban spaces. The site sits next to the River Clyde which is tidal at the point of discharge. Flood study models and joint probability analysis were carried out to sensibly address flooding issues which allowed us to design the drainage for the full site taking cognisance of the sensitivity models. SuDS measures are integrated within the public realm proposals, mainly using the soft landscaping. Measures include rain gardens, tree pits and porous surfaces. Co-ordination of services was essential due to the nature of the city centre location and avoids expensive diversions.

As a Senior Engineer, I was responsible for ensuring the civils aspects of our projects were managed and resourced. I also focused on working in collaboration with our Structural and Geo-environmental colleagues, the design / client team in order to deliver the best solution for the project. Key ProjectsDalbeattie Learning CampusWoolgar Hunter were appointed as Civil and Structural Engineers to develop the detailed design of a new two storey combined high school and primary school building with associated playgrounds, sports pitches, car parking and access roads. The drainage design had to take cognisance of a groundwater dependent terrestrial ecosystem and an existing marshland to be retained by the school as a biodiversity area.Royal Edinburgh Hospital Phase 1, EdinburghRedevelopment of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital campus into new, high quality, fit-for-purpose mental health care facilities including the provision of improved access, landscaping and open spaces. The detailed design of the phase 1 infrastructure included major earthworks requirements and the no dig construction of an adoptable cycle path in a protected tree zone. Fort Kinnaird External Works, EdinburghUpgrading of the existing public realm, car park and roads on the existing retail park at Fort Kinnaird. Proposed works involve realigning and wideining of the ring road within the site including provision of a new SuDS system. Other notable projects that I have been heavily involved with include:• Dumfries Learning Town - New build combined high school and primary school with ground condition problems to overcome, high water table and near a flood plain. · Stirling Care Village (£30m)- new care village on the Stirling Community Hospital site. The engineering works involve extensive site work, new car parking, access roads and landscaping along with associated SUDs drainage systems.

I am responsible for providing effective leadership, motivation and managerial direction to 9 members of staff to implement a roads operational and maintenance service with a focus on developing and implementing the roads asset management plan. My main duties and responsibilities within this service are:• Expected to lead the asset management team which includes; roads maintenance, street lighting and traffic signal maintenance.• Monitor, collate and report on actual spend against planned revenue and capital expenditure relating to roads asset management activities to ensure financial objectives are achieved. • Monitor and record performance to ensure that KPI’s and PI’s are achieved and that a high quality service is provided to our stake holders.• Improve and maintain the Council’s roads network and lead in the design and implementation of surface water and sustainable urban drainage schemes. • To develop and continually review the road asset management plan and produce management information relating to roads asset management as required.• To progress and investigate complaints and enquiries relating to roads asset management provision in compliance with Council policy.• To ensure compliance with all relevant and appropriate legislation relating to the roads network.• Production of engineering drawings and contract documents to facilitate the procurement of works utilising where appropriate standard designs and specifications from the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and the WDC Roads Development Guide.• Manage development control applications and Road Construction Consents with respect to design and approval of new developments.• To liaise with other Council services, External agencies and relevant stakeholders as required.• Operate and maintain high quality asset management systems, processes and procedures• Lead in the design and construction of minor works/major works.

Whilst employed as an Engineer at Aberdeen City Council, I undertook work required on the A96 Park and Ride, A956 Souterhead Road junction improvement and the Third Don Crossing. My remit included:• Assist the Principal Engineer with the provision of civil engineering consultancy service to the council and the public. • Assist in leading a team of technical staff responsible for the route investigation/feasibility study. • Detailed design and contract management of road improvement projects up to multi-million pound size. • Carry out assessments of road constructions consent applications from external applicants including private sector developers.• Assist the Principal Engineer with the provision of civil engineering consultancy service to the council and the public.• Assist in leading a team of professional and technical staff working on the projects allocated to the post.• Carry out project management and cost monitoring.• Carry out assessments of road construction consent applications from external applicants including private sector developers.• Liaise with elected members, community groups and other bodies.

Clyde Wind Farms, AbingtonSenior civil engineer for the road network relating to the proposed £480m wind farm located between Biggar and Moffat divided by the M74 motorway running between Abington, Elvanfoot and Crawford. The access tracks that serve the turbines have been routed to follow ridge tops wherever possible to minimise their visibility in the surrounding landscape. The Harbours, GreenockSenior civil engineer for the infrastructure of a Harbours regeneration project dealing with drainage, roads and junction design, signs & road markings, Road Construction Consents, meetings and gaining approvals from the relevant authorities.James Watt Dock, GreenockSenior civil engineer for the infrastructure of a Harbours regeneration project dealing with drainage, roads and junction design, meetings and gaining approvals from the relevant authorities, along with flood defence and revetment design, marina design and dock infilling works.Perth and Kinross Schools Civils Manager dealing with drainage (SUDs), road and hardstanding design, signs & road markings, client requests, Road Construction Consents, meetings and gaining approvals from the relevant authorities (i.e. SEPA and Scottish Water). Dundee Central Waterfront Civils Coordinator for the infrastructure of a town regeneration project. Cost £54m, features within the project are construction phasing (existing busy road network), ramps (from bridge) signalized intersections & building on old reclaimed dock land.

Jacobs were appointed to develop proposals and manage the procurement and delivery of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route which is a key component of the planned Modern Transport System and Regional Transport Strategy to provide improved and integrated transport in the North East of Scotland. Of strategic important for the immediate area and Scotland as a whole, the project will help tackle congestion and increase accessibility. The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route runs for 46 kilometres, combining a bypass around the city and a fast link section to Stonehaven with an estimated cost of £295m - £395m.My remit on this project included:• Preparation of CPO and Road Orders• Preparation of Constructability and Cycle Audits.• Assist with scheme specimen design using MX complying with DMRB standards.• Prepare departures from standard for the project. • Design line markings, signs and barriers for the project.

As a Graduate within the Transportation section my remit included:- Prepare responses to planning applications - Prepare responses to construction consents- Design and prepare contract documents for traffic calming schemes and temporary traffic management schemes- Design and order traffic signsAs a Graduate within the Design & Maintenance Department my remit included:- Design and preparation of contract documents for surfacing projects (carriageway / footway) allocated- Comply with the requirement of the service’s Quality Assurance System- Supervision of site works including measurement- Comply with this Service’s procedures under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994As a Graduate within the Roads Contracting Unit my remit included:- Pricing of tender documents received by the RCU- Programming of works to be carried out- Ordering of materials, plant, etc in order to carry out surfacing works- Supervision of works- Measurement of works carried out and submitting paymentM77 / Glasgow Southern Orbital Seconded to Jacobs Babtie to monitor the construction and operation of the M77 Motorway extension and the Glasgow Southern Orbital. The £200m Design, Build, Finance and Operate project improved and integral part of Scotland’s strategic road network by replacing the A77, one of the most dangerous sections of Trunk Road in Scotland. As part of the team on site my remit included:- Responsible for monitoring and inspection of the construction of the new works - Check design compliance with the new works requirements - Monitor that the works are constructed within the land made available by ERC - Monitor testing of the new works.

Amey Highways were awarded the contract to manage and maintain the trunk roads in the south west of Scotland in April 2001.Whilst employed as a Graduate engineer I oversaw work required on the M8, M80, M74, M73 and the A725/ A726. My remit included:• Design and Implementation of Road Maintenance Schemes under £150,000.• Operation of the Roads Maintenance Management System and various other propriety Computer Software Packages.• Responsibility for Issuing and Supervising Minor Works and Assisting in the Supervision of Major Works. • Ensure that all Design Work is carried out in accordance with current design standards.• Take part in the management of Winter Maintenance including out of hours duty rota.• Monitoring of Works Costs and Budgets.• Prepare and Issue Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTROs).
