When it comes to my investment career, I’ve focused on the stories behind the fund managers and on building trusting relationships with people who are passionate about investing. Equally at Atrium, we view all of our managers as an extension of our own internal investment team and thrive when we can develop a two-way street of information sharing and collaboration while growing together. With over 17 years in the industry, this qualitative and people focused approach, together with my analytical quantitative skill set, has helped me carve out a specialist niche for myself. This comes in handy with client, stakeholder and leadership communications where I write the majority of client investment communications/commentaries for Atrium Investment Management, regularly talk to advisers, present webinars and act as the key conduit between teams. Coming from a manager rating, selection, and investing background, I’ve come to know a lot of them across different asset classes and . What I have realised over the years is that it really pays to work with highly competent, philosophically aligned, and nice people, it also really pays to treat our managers (and potential managers) with respect. At the end of the day we are all just people trying to work together for a common goal of helping clients reach their investment goals.The manager alignment we look for as part of our award-winning Atrium portfolios consists of three core components: - Consistent alpha performance over the cycle - Fundamental bottom-up research approach - Focus on risk management and downside protection If we have these covered, we are well along the path of building a trusting and fruitful relationship for all parties, which is what I enjoy most.I’m also the Treasurer of the Sydney Croatian Club Ltd, a large social and community club soon to be based out of Concord, while I also enjoy cycling and reading up on European (and financial markets) history.
