About David Mbewa
Depending on the prism through which one looks at me, some would see an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Professional, some would see a logistician, some would see an epidemiologist, some would see a biostatistician, some would see an environmentalist, some would even see a tutor. I would not digress to any of this. My career objective is to pursue situations and opportunities for the effective consolidation and application of a distinguished experience and knowledge in Transport & Logistics, Public Health, Occupational Safety & Health and Environmental Sciences, aimed to address constraints towards Sustainable Development and to promote the goal of health research, safety culture, wealth creation, integrating good governance and social justice. Yet the story begins much earlier. In High School, I remember reading an article in one of the dailies on the number of lives lost and injuries sustained during the construction of a Hydro-electric power plant, which coincidentally was less than 40km away from my school. This was an appalling state of affairs and I experienced a burning urge to do something about it. This marked the beginning of my passion for Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Conservation. I have worked in diverse settings and in different sectors. At the onset of my career as an interne, I have worked with a Government Parastatal (National Environment Management Authority), then moved to health research, EHS Consultancy, Marine and onshore engineering, construction, logistics and Oil & Gas sectors. In each of the sectors, I have amassed a wealth of experience and honed my skills. Some of my key achievements include: -• Being an integral member of the midstream operations team that delivered Kenya’s maiden crude oil export;• Successfully executed the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) Project before schedule, within budget and with Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs);• Drafted and reviewed QHSE Documentation for the LTWP in line with the clients Framework Environmental, Social, Health and Safety Management Plan; and my Company’s internal QHSE Documents • Trained staff on EHS and cultural awareness as a foundation for social cohesion • Improved revenue by the fleets’ monthly Gross Margin by proper quotations and selection of assignment • Overall reduction of recordable and non-recordable incidents. I believe in learning new things. I believe in making significant changes wherever I go. I believe in excellence. Just as Aristotle puts it “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
Listed skills include Training, Policy, Statistics, Project Planning, and 11 others.
