• Providing technical input on constructability through the development of the life cycle of the project specifically construction and commissioning schedule, Reputation, Quality, Safety and Environment.• Leading a team of construction managers including the selection, induction, evaluation of direct reports and recommends training and development of staff. This includes taking into account long-term career development needs as well as improving effectiveness in performance of current job• Ensuring co-ordination and co-operation of UU and contractors during the construction phase • Ensuring that construction work is completed on time, to scope, and controlling costs and change.• Liaising with the project team and reporting to the General Manager / Programme Delivery Manager on all important construction issues• Ensuring that contractors and consultants work to agreed scope and to company & legislation standards.• Developing approaches and strategies to managing ES&H with a variety of contractors and contract forms.• Identifying and monitoring construction risks and opportunities during the project lifecycle.• Producing of weekly and monthly reports of construction and commissioning performance.• Reviewing processes and procedures to ensure good construction practice is maintained across the capital programme.• Assuring compliance with CDM, SHEQ legislation and quality, best practice and Company standards by the Contractor.• Being responsible to the General Manager for Construction, commissioning and SHE performance.• Being accountable to the Head of Delivery for defect resolution process and successful handover of the assets to process operations.• Supporting the development and implementation of business continuity plans

Main accountabilities:• Leading the evaluation of SHE exposures and priorities.• Ensuring adequate SHE leadership capability, knowledge, awareness and competence exists across the business stream to control those exposures.• Influencing the development of robust SHE strategies within the business stream and the wider UU.• Leading the promotion and drive of a world class SHE culture in collaboration with other parts of UU, and all contracted services and key suppliers. • Developing and delivering improvement plans to address risk reduction and accountabilities against prioritised risks.• Developing the strategy for the delivery of SHE training requirements.• Influencing and directing the senior leadership team in achieving agreed SHE strategies and improvement plans.• Identifying and publicising established best practices, and influencing and supporting their adoption within other UU contracts / business streams. • Serving as the primary interface with the Health & Safety Executive or any other regulator or litigator regarding related SHE activities.• Developing SHE procedures and safe systems of work specific to work stream activities and in line with mandated corporate standards.• Providing assurance that SHE improvements are being sustained and accountabilities met. • Establishing KPI targets and measuring and reporting SHE performance across the contract to satisfy client and corporate requirements.• Line management of SHE Advisor(s)

This included all aspects of budgeting, programming, scheduling of work, progress monitoring and co-ordination with other departments.
