Evidence Technician
Current* Properly store, secure and manage over 450,000 seized exhibits, documenting all high risk exhibits to federal agencies.* Contact potential owners for further inquiries and authorize release when rightful owner is identified utilizing Sentry, Palantir, CPIC, Alberta ROADS, ORCA* Disposition property for release, auction, charities, or destruction.* Instruct, advise, and communicate with officers on evidence technician responsibilities and property status.* Dispatch and receive exhibits to/from RCMP Crime Labs.* Provide educational opportunities to recruits during training on evidence technician procedures and property management.* Operate picker machine, forklift, cube van, truck/vans.* Commute to all district offices and APS (Arrest Processing Section), FCSU (Forensic Crime Scene Unit), DFT (Digital Forensic Team), Luna Centre, SAICE (Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation)* Coordinate with sworn investigators and facilitate scheduling of investigative viewings and exhibit splitting.* Assist sworn members with media disclosure and exhibit preparation.* Collaborate closely with the Firearms Investigative Unit (FIU) and Firearms Support Team (FST) on firearm-related cases.* Act as liaison between prosecutors, defense counsel, CPS investigators, SPMD, defense counsel, and accused individuals.* Comply with order of forfeiture and/or return, adhering to distinct timelines.
