This position included working in a state correctional facility with adult offenders. The primary responsibilities included supervising dangerous inmates, performing searches when needed, and the care, custody, and control of offenders within the facility. Other responsibilities included maintaining the security of the facility, providing emergency assistance when needed, maintaining adequate human relations, and role-modeling appropriate social and problem-solving skills. Other responsibilities included but were not limited to the following:Supervised inmates in housing units and those segregated for administrative or punitive measures; instruct inmates in housekeeping and sanitation; supervise the issuance of clothing and other personal effects to inmates. Made periodic patrols of quarters and work areas and initiate counts of inmates at regular and irregular intervals; maintain control and discipline including use of physical restraint and restraining devices; prevent the introduction of contraband into the institutionChecked inmate mail for possible contraband; maintain a periodic patrol either inside or outside the institution to ensure the security and integrity of the institution. This position included working in a group home with delinquent boys, ages 12 to 18. One of the main responsibilities of this position was to supervise youth in care as they motivated through a daily schedule. This included working with children, youth, and families with emotional, social, and behavioral difficulties. Other responsibilities included facilitating group and individual counseling sessions, maintaining treatment plans, and networking with local and state agencies.

As a mobile therapist the main responsibilities included providing intensive therapeutic services to children and families in settings other than the agencies office, such as the child’s home or school. As a BSC the main responsibilities included designing and implementing behavior modification intervention plans which were individualized to each child and adolescent, and to the family needs.

Responsibilities included working closely with faculty from the Criminology Department, as well as undergraduate students, conducting class on occasion, grading course-work, and conducting research alongside staff and students. This program was offered for children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with ADHD and other psychiatric disorders. The program, designed by Dr. Pelham, was conducted on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus and offered therapeutic activities in both the classroom and recreational settings.
