David McGhie first became involved in the Support Services industry in 1979 after serving ten years in the Merchant Navy as a deck officer. After joining Serco (RCA) in 1982 as contract manager he was promoted in 1985 to Group Manager with responsibility for Serco’s Scottish business.In 1989 David was appointed Director Operations Serco UK Defence, which was followed in 1993 by a transfer to New Jersey USA to establish a Serco presence in North America. During David’s three years as President of Serco Inc, the company grew successfully. On return to the UK in 1996 David became Managing Director Serco Operations, encompassing business activities with the Royal Navy, DERA, defence engineering and the commercial maritime sector. In February 2001 David was appointed Chief Executive of Serco Defence, with responsibility for all UK defence activities.In March 2003 David was promoted to Director Global Development for Serco Group, with responsibility for developing and supporting the International Business.Within the new roll he as appointed Executive Chairman of Serco Asia Pacific in May 2003 where he provided support to the management team in the successful restructuring of the business in Asia Pacific.2005 David moved to the Middle East as Executive Chairman where he completed a review and restructure of the business in the region . David officially retired in December 2008 after 27 years with Serco . David has extensive international Board level experience. Operating as a Senior Management Consultant he continues to support projects in the UK and world.
