I specialize in existing building structures, providing expertise in structural analysis, design, evaluation, and retrofitting for both new and existing building structures. This includes conducting seismic risk assessments and forensic investigations.

Authored over 700 due diligence, seismic risk assessment reports of commercial, multifamily, residential properties for probable maximum loss (SEL/SUL), including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and HUD MAP engagements and performed structural observation services.

I was responsible for forensic investigation and evaluation of commercial, institutional and residential building structures to determine the apparent cause of structural concerns due to fire and/or water/flood damage. I authored investigation reports and, in some cases, provided structural design solutions for the remedial repair of structural damage. Representative project:University of California San Francisco, Mission Bay Campus, Rock Hall, San Francisco, CaliforniaI conducted a field investigation and authored a findings report to address the cause of water leakage from the building’s underfloor storm drain system.

As Associate Civil Engineer with the EBMUD, Office of Regulatory Compliance, Capital Program Management Group, I was responsible for managing a $28 million dollar budget for capital improvements to District (EBMUD) security systems a $2 million budget for fueling systems upgrades, driven by federal, state and local environmental and safety regulatory compliance regulations. I planned, designed and managed the construction of high priority security and fueling systems related capital improvement projects. My duties consisted of: coordinating facility by facility evaluation of security and fueling systems needs; management and development of risk-based assessment of security priorities; identifying, developing and prioritizing longer term security and fueling systems related capital improvement projects; preparing design drawings and specifications for improvements; procuring specialty design services, obtaining permits, coordination of equipment and construction contractors; managing elements of construction work to be done by District forces; providing engineering services during construction; and preparing a variety of memoranda, project authorizations and presentations. Representative projects included:Phase II Enhanced Vapor Recovery (EVR) Upgrades, Orinda, San Lorenzo and Oakland, California: I planned, designed and managed Phase II EVR upgrades to three District-owned fueling facilities with underground fuel storage tanks, to eliminate fuel vapor emissions being released to the atmosphere.Main Administration Building, Security Upgrades – I planned, designed and managed security upgrades to the District’s Main Administration Building and garage door reconfiguration.South Yard Drainage Improvements, San Lorenzo, California – I planned, designed and managed improvements to the service yard storm drain system to eliminate potential fuel spills and debris from entering the storm drain system and contaminating nearby San Lorenzo Creek.

I performed complex structural design of new and modification to existing wastewater facilities that involved concrete, steel, masonry or timber construction materials; design of seismic restraint systems and seismic retrofit of wastewater treatment and collection facilities; performed computer analysis of new and existing concrete and steel structures, equipment and major piping supports; provided engineering services during construction to support District Construction Managers, including submittal review, issuing clarifications, evaluating change orders and troubleshooting field problems; Prepared structural drawings, specifications, calculations and construction cost estimates, and developed structural standard details; made technical presentations to project stakeholders, District staff and officials. Representative projects included:Main Wastewater Treatment Plant, Dewatering Facility, Centrifuge Addition, Oakland, California – I designed a pipe support system for 900 psi heavy-duty piping, including a 3-dimentional, computer model and analysis.Main Wastewater Treatment Plant, Oakland, California, Primary Sedimentation Tanks, Influent and Effluent Chanel Rehabilitation – I provided structural analysis and design services for the removal and replacement of corroded concrete slab and wall elements of the primary influent channel.

I was hired through Harvest Technical Services, a technical recruiting and staff augmentation company. My duties consisted of the structural design, analysis, computer modeling, evaluation and retrofit of industrial building structures for WRMS, a multi-disciplined architectural and engineering consulting company in Walnut Creek, CA. Representative projects that I worked on included the structural design of a new Central Power Plant Building at the Genentech biomedical facility in South San Francisco and the upgrade of the existing Central Boiler Plant at Stanford Medical Center.

I was responsible for the structural design, analysis, evaluation and seismic retrofit of steel, concrete, wood and masonry building structures, preparing written reports, calculations, drawings and specifications and computer modeling with RISA-3D. I also provided plan-check services of school buildings for the California Department of the State Architect (DSA), communication with clients, coordination of the preparation of construction documents and submittal schedules and construction administration to monitor compliance with construction documents. As project engineer, I was responsible for providing project coordination, quality control, and producing construction document design submittals on schedule and within budget. Representative Projects included:US Bank, Redwood City, California - designed seismic retrofit of a complex of one-story concrete tilt-up wall, warehouse buildings for US Bank.Mercedes Bends Dealership, Oakland, California - Designed seismic retrofit of a one-story industrial use building.

I provided construction administration services to monitor compliance with construction documents for the Stanley Hall Replacement Facility at UC Berkeley, a 240,000 square foot laboratory and research facility and the New De Young Museum located in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.

As project engineer and manager, I successfully managed a variety of projects including structural design of new building structures, seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing building structures and water storage facilities. My duties consisted of: writing proposals defining project scope, tracking budgets and schedules; communicating with clients; structural analysis; field investigations; computerized modeling; production of construction documents and seismic evaluation reports on existing buildings; coordination of staff activities; providing quality control; monitoring schedules, deliverables and budgets. Construction administration duties consisted of monitoring compliance with construction documents. Projects included:Executive Order 12941 - Seismic Safety of Existing Federally Owned or Leased Buildings - I evaluated the seismic safety of thousands of existing federally owned or leased buildings located in seismically vulnerable regions nationwide, for the US Army, Navy, Bureau of Reclamation and other federal agencies.Micron Technology D-Ram Fabrication Facility in Lehi, Utah - I served as seismic coordinator for the quality and control of seismic anchorage and bracing of MEP (mechanical, electric and piping) for the $1.3 billion fast-track construction project.Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, Oakland, California – I designed a special concentric steel braced-frame system to retrofit this torsionally irregular, 3-story steel frame building that was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake.Hoover Dam Visitor Center, Grand Coulee, Washington – I conducted a field investigation, authored a seismic evaluation report and developed a conceptual retrofit design to strengthen this precast concrete wall structure using fiber-reinforced plastic.
