At His Mansion, Servant Leaders are men and women that walk alongside of our residents (those seeking help from all manner of addictions, trauma, and other life-controlling issues). I supervise and facilitate the care and spiritual formation of these men and women. Through class facilitation, regular reviews, and mentoring, we train our Servant Leaders to love in their leadership and service to struggling and hurting people. In this way, Servant Leaders are equipped to serve the local church by becoming men and women who know how to care and guide people with grace and truth.

I've been working at His Mansion since 2012. Over the course of this time, my role has changed but the practical outworking of it has stayed the same. In 2014, we discerned the need for more care and attention for our Servant Leaders (participants in one of our programs). I worked with others to develop a new department specifically for the care and formation of these program participants. In the process, I helped develop a year-long curriculum for the training and development of Servant Leaders. The curriculum focuses on servanthood: how do we serve men and women struggling with life controlling issues with the love of Jesus? I teach and facilitate weekly classes using this curriculum. In addition, our program participants are in need of weekly care and counsel, so I mentor most of the men in their daily life, ministry role, relationship with Christ, and relationships with others. If I am unable to mentor them, I place them with a mentor fit for them. I also oversee the application process for new program participants, which includes processing applications, corresponding with applicants, contacting references, and making a final decision. This process takes time and discernment. Not all applicants are fit to serve with us. It is my job to make the right call about a given applicant. Servant Leaders are offered regular reviews for feedback and encouragement in their role and personal life. I facilitate these reviews for these program participants, which may include offering very difficult feedback to a person who needs it. It is also a time to affirm what is going well.Additionally, for their rest and refreshment, I plan and lead biannual retreats for Servant Leaders. Every summer we invite 6 summer interns to serve with our Servant Leaders. I oversee this summer internship program in its entirety from the application process to their completion of the program.
