With over 35 years experience of working in the construction industry, David has built up experience of all aspects of the profession ranging from small domestic alterations to award winning, multi-million pound projects. Working closely with Clients, Architects, , Service Engineers, Surveyors, Contractors, Fabricators and Suppliers, an extensive knowledge of the requirements for integrated design and construction has been built up from concept stage to completion.Having qualified from Leeds University in 1988, David joined Anthony Hunt Associates as a Graduate Engineer, establishing a strong interest in the complex design solutions required for long span structures and vital experience of working with high profile architectural practices, including Fosters + Partners, Grimshaws, Hopkins & Aukett ArchitectsIn 1994 he left with Mike Otlet and David Dexter to help establish a new Specialist Structures group within WS Atkins, based in Oxford, where one of his highlights was being the lead engineer, responsible for the design of the roof and mast structure for the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.Moving to join the London office in early 2000 as an Associate to help develop and promote the special engineering group with projects in the fields of sports and leisure, transportation and commerce, he was instrumental in developing, with HOK Sport (Populous), the winning competition concept design for the 30,000 seat Estádio do Algarve, Portugal - built for the Euro 2004 finals.In 2006 he joined the recently set up specialist structural engineering practice David Dexter Associates, focussing on concept design, value engineering and providing total design, documentation and construction phase services either singly, or via strategic association with appropriate consultants. During this time he was the lead engineer for the roof structure on the new Avenues shopping mall in Kuwait, at the time one of the world’s longest, while also specialising in the design of lightweight steel construction, ETFE and tensile structures and a continuing the interest in lightweight pedestrian footbridges. In 2019 David began a new phase in his career bringing over 30 years of design and construction experience and knowledge to Smithers Purslow's Structural Engineering Division while actively supporting the rigorous investigation of structural defects and defect rectification. Working for both private and insurance industry clients on a range of domestic, commercial properties and structures, including listed and historic properties across the UK and Europe.
