In the last 40 years, I have pursued two separate professional interests. Initially after earning my PhD, I taught sociology at the university level for a couple of years, but was then attracted to "life on the road". I spent about 9 years, sating wanderlust, supporting my travels with varied short term work experiences, including two stints of deployment as a civilian instructor aboard US troop ships in the Mediterranean and Pacific. Recognizing that I had committed a sort of professional suicide, I went back to school to reinvigorate my vita. While earning an MS in Environmental Studies at Montana, I worked specifically on the controversial issue of reintroduction of gray wolves into Yellowstone. This began my second professional pursuit which lasted from 1985 until 2009, when I decided to leave the Environmental Defense Fund and continue learning about and developing my own vision to prompt broader cultural reform.
