I successfully managed sales of Microsoft products across all major electronic retailers in a large territory, including Sydney Metro, Western Sydney, Hills District, Central Coast and Newcastle. Territory management included achievement of sales targets, monitoring stock levels, generation of sales reports, relationship building and responsibility for the territory merchandising team.Commercial awareness was demonstrated in this sales role, in that I was required to understand the wider context of consumer electronics and hardware. I also needed to have knowledge of what the customer wanted and to understand the strengths of the Microsoft brand in order to facilitate commitment to the brand amongst retailers and to expand Microsoft’s footprint in stores. Being someone that enjoys interpersonal interaction, I particularly enjoyed the relationship building aspect of my sales role. This included regular contact with store management, provision of product training and cross promotion with other brands. My relationship building also involved organising promotional lunches and event launches, while seeking to maximise the networking opportunities that these provided. My tertiary qualifications in theology have trained me to be a skilled presenter and communicator with a strong relationships focus. Similarly, my recent employment as a church youth pastor has needed strong interpersonal communication skills and regular public presentations to varying group contexts. My pastoring role existed within a staff team who placed emphasis on collaboration and partnership and required a strong ethic of care for people. Within this context of teamwork, I was required to be self-motivated, to complete multiple tasks simultaneously including planning events for large groups of people as well as an efficient administrator.
