Public Health Investigator
I work alongside the Epidemiology team to create public health reports and work with ad-hoc data-related projects. I use R programming software to extract data from CalREDIE to update the public-facing vaccination and Covid-19 cases dashboards found in the County of Santa Cruz Public Health website. I also provide support and epidemiologic advice in our Infectious Disease Branch by using R to extract data from CalCONNECT to create a Covid-19 outbreak surveillance report of Santa Cruz County. The Covid-19 outbreak report provides vital epidemiological information to illustrate areas of the county that need attention to help reduce the level of disease in our community. In this role, I've had the opportunity to work closely together with a few disease investigators and to train and supervise them on case investigation procedures and best practices. Through mentoring, I’ve trained junior disease investigators on how to use statewide systems we use to identify and respond to Covid-19 outbreaks in Santa Cruz County.Previously, I also held the responsibility of conducting disease investigations by conducting phone interviews with Covid-19 cases. During these interviews, I used my knowledge of community resources and medical services available to the community to ameliorate the burden of the disease on community members. I also used interviewing techniques to help with risk reduction, draw out potential exposure situations, and provide referrals for medical intervention to help reduce the spread of disease in Santa Cruz County.
Community Engagement And Data Manager
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville is a non-profit organization creating simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with low-income families, volunteers, and the community of Charlottesville. Homes are built with a volunteer labor force including homeowner families, corporate, civic, and church groups. My work here included planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing programs and events to improve the quality of life of the residents. Some of these programs included the Boys and Girls Club after-school programs; an early childhood preschool program designed to teach rising kindergarteners English and prepare them for public school; a senior citizen directive designed to provide healthy aging through civic engagement, social activities, and physical well-being; monthly educational meetings on chronic diseases and how to prevent them taught by partners from UVa's School of Medicine, and local festivals that created relationships between community members and community stakeholders.I also led a survey that collected data on how Southwood residents perceived their quality of life. By providing expertise on data collection techniques, I helped reduce collection bias and was able to use the responses collected to present information and data to community members on the status of their community. With the advent of Covid-19, I also worked to create a pandemic response program. We contacted all community members through phone calls to educate the residents on SARS-CoV-2 and organized and coordinated efforts with stakeholders to provide free facemasks, food and financial assistance, community referrals to programs, and collaborated with the local public health department to bring a mobile Covid-19 testing facility for the residents to get tested free of charge.
Masters Student In Public Health Sciences
My cumulative learning experience involved the assessment of a large dataset containing about 25,000 observations that were analyzed in SAS statistical software. Using logistic regression, I was able to predict fracture risk probabilities for the U.S. population based on age and gender discrepancies of bone mass density. I was able to present my work at the Virginia Public Health Association student research day poster session.Relevant coursework includes gathering secondary quantitative data from the CDC’s NHANESS website. I used this data to create a report and evaluate the relationship of diabetic patients having a high A1C score and being told by their physicians they have retinopathy.I also consulted with students from the school of law, on protocols that the Virginia Department of Health could use to help reduce the opioid epidemic in Virginia.Using Tableau and ArcGIS, I visually displayed data and created maps with population demographics and area pollutants. This information was reported to community stakeholders to create strategies to improve population health.Analyzed quantitative and qualitative data in courses such as Biostatistics and Regression Analysis.Researched and evaluated health care policies in classes such as Health Care Policy, Public Health Law and Public Health Equity.
Optometrist Technician
As a certified optometrist technician, I pretested patients for eye exams. I also performed special testing for medical patients, these test included retinal photography, pachymetry, topography, visual field and optical coherence tomography.
Physical Therapy Tech
A physical therapy aide position where I helped patients through recovery exercises. I also treated them with electrical muscle stimulation and ultrasound therapy. I am still amazed at the progress and recovery patients made through therapeutic exercises.
Product Support Rep
Provided excellent customer service over the telephone both in Spanish and English to customers in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, the U.S., and Canada. At NuSkin, I practiced empathy and cultural sensitivity as I resolved complex concerns and communicated technical information on products and ingredients to distributors and retail customers.

At this neuromuscular physical therapy practice, I served as a physical therapy aide and helped with manual stretching. Made sure that patients and doctors were ready for appointments by reviewing patient progress records and addressing patients' concerns before their appointments.
