In a recent time of reflection, I realized each job or career I have had has centered around two common themes: service and transition. Allow me to explain. My first entrepreneurial adventure began as a high school student when I teamed up with a classmate to form a lawn business. Our service was a crisp, clean looking lawn. Through a lot of hard work, and hot summer days, my first business help me understand the basics of owning my own company and what it takes to succeed. I entered college thinking I wanted to study engineering, but quickly determined that I did not want to do science and math for the rest of my life. Instead, being called to youth ministry in a local church, I pursued separate undergraduate degrees in Human Communication and Biblical Text and later received a Masters in Religion. During my ten year stint in youth ministry, I helped students and their families navigate the often treacherous waters of adolescence. Here, I learned to help others as they transitioned from one area of life to another. I also learned that there is no “cookie-cutter” approach that works for everyone; each individual and family has their own characteristics that require their own special roadmap. However, even though there is no general rule that applies to everyone, there is a God who provides us with direction for our lives. It is on His principles that I live my life today. My role as an Estate Planning attorney is to listen to my clients and understand their dreams and goals as well as their fears and frustrations and then provide solutions to meet those.
