I worked as part of a small team of highly skilled, dedicated production journalists, designing, editing and proof reading tabloid news, sport and feature pages for the North-West Evening Mail, News and Star in Carlisle and a string of weekly papers that formed part of the CN Group stable of titles. The team was an integral part of the group's multi-media strategy and took a key role in editing content for the digital platforms, including Facebook and the Mail's website. I also played a prominent part in designing and editing highly successful supplements, ranging from business awards projects to community and special news supplements.

I edited letters pages for both the Daily and Sunday Express. This involved editing often lengthy letters sensitively and choosing a suitably topical example as the lead. This role involved liaising closely with the Picture Editor, the legal department and the Editor, who would sometimes ask for changes to be made or a new letter to be included at short notice. I also proof-read and revised a wide variety of features pages, locking pages so that they were ready for printing.

As a news reporter, I covered a full range of on and off-diary material, from general elections to murder trials; council meetings to human interest stories. As a sub-editor and senior designer I supervised the bulk of page production. This involved selecting the story list for the next day’s paper with the Editor and other senior staff; liaising with library and promotions as required, then designing up to 14 broadsheet pages and supervising a team of sub editors to ensure the finished product was completed to a high standard and was ready for printing.
