I started working for MTD Products as an Electrical Engineering Co-op at their w.130th Street Automotive plant. After graduation, I worked with the Special Machines department building new equipment for that and other MTD plants. Since then I have been designing and programming new equipment for MTD and researching new technologies for new manufacturing processes.Throughout my career at MTD, I have built and programmed several Automation Cells for Fabrication and Assembly. I have traveled the world installing equipment in several different countries, including China, Mexico, Germany, Hungary and Canada as well as several locations in the USA. These have included several Robotic cells, doing various different tasks of Material Handling, Press Tending, Mig Welding, Spot Welding and Die Cast Machine Tending.There have been a lot of opportunities to work with existing equipment as well. I have been directly responsible for a controls upgrade on a stamping press line installed in Hungary, as well as integrating robots to tend Aluminum Die Casting Machines. I also programmed Fanuc robots to tend CNC Lathes and feedback part data to the lathe for machine tool offsets.One of the biggest accomplishments was developing an AGV system to be used as assembly carts and material delivery vehicles to the assembly lines. This was a unique opportunity to program machine controls with a PC system analyzing a web cam image and controlling the motors based on that image.
