As I participate in my current roles I particularly enjoy challenging, innovative heritage conservation initiatives that utilise my skill base and enthusiasm. My overarching aim is to help others to become more creative and reflective; working to empower individuals and help organisations to achieve their goals. I am a firm believer in the use of good governance and curation as tools for the protection and of development living and built heritage sites, collections and biodiversity. Working continually to improve resilience, sustainability, access and economic growth. Within my conservation, land management, horticulture and arts activity, I always seek to deliver 'A Duty of Care' and 'A Sense of Wonder for the Land and its Future'; growing communities and individuals to ensure excellence in the private, public and charitable sectors. Often I act as a 'bridge between polarised internal and external positions; ultimately enabling others take the ‘path less trodden' delivering greater opportunity and inclusion for all.I maintain a broad practice in concept design and project development complemented by specialist historic glasshouse and garden restoration skills. Working with CEO's, Architects and Engineers my partners have included the Scott Wilson Group plc, URS Europe, GrossMax and UHW clients.My communication and broadcasting career in public speaking, radio and television now spans forty plus years within Ivy League Universities, the BBC, STV, Channel 4, Scots Language Radio and Grow Radio. I also have extensive experience as a lecturer and travel guide in Britain, Europe, South East Asia, South Africa, North America and the South Pacific; the focus being on the cultural importance of the natural world and biodiversity in our daily lives. Over the past nine years my outreach work has focused on highlighting Scotland's rich horticultural heritage, native flora and fauna; especially the wealth of the Atlantic Seaboard. This has included the development of a bespoke lecture programme for three NTS cultural cruises 2016-18 and a series land tours in Scotland and the North of England for Noble Caledonia.During 2023-25, I will lead NC tours to the English Lake District, N.E. Scotland & Argyll here the focus will be on art, science, nature, poetry & literature within the Enlightenment, Romantic and Picturesque eras. Recently I was delighted to explore the gardens of the west of Scotland onboard MV Hebridean Princess as guest lecturer. Currently I am Deputy Chair of the National Trust for Scotland and a Trustee of Hidden Garden, Glasgow,
