As the Head Horticulturist I am responsible for reclaiming parts of the Park that were destroyed by the Gatlinburg fires of 2016, and for overall aesthetics of the visitor areas, as pertains to plantings, development of additional outdoor spaces, and landscape maintenance. The Vista Garden botanical garden, atop the property, is being planted with native species, as well as unusual specimen varieties of evergreens, and a wide variety of colorful annuals, perennials, vines, and grasses. The natural regrowth of native vegetation, such as mountain laurel (which are making a resurgence from among the ashes), will also be managed, so that all plant types in the burned areas have the proper amount of space to regrow into a balanced, new-growth forest.

Presenting professional plant and landscape knowledge is my other line of work. But there is so much more interesting, and sometimes absurd, information that just doesn't quite fit into the parameters of 'formal education', that it needs another outlet. So, letting pictures of said absurdities speak for themselves, with, maybe a bit of my own absurd commentary, I have created several on-topic, but utterly useless, 'presentations pertaining to particularly preposterous plant parts, and pieces'. It's all in the name of fun, but you might learn something, if you you aren't careful. Presentaions are typically around 30 minutes, but might seem 'punfully' long, and are time-customizable.
