Visionstream is a major Australian telecommunications network and infrastructure services company providing a range of designing, building, operating and maintaining and disposal services across fixed and wireless networks.As a National Design Manager, I was responsible for ensuring the design team was resourced. This included creating a project delivery resource plan to manage project overheads in regards to design resources, providing monthly reports, communicating design quality performance, identifying preventative measures and action required to reduce rework, and more.During my time in the role, I worked with a key iconic client (Optus), and had a range of direct reports. This included 17 Drafters, three Electrical Engineers, four Structural Engineers, and others, as well as seven indirect reports.Key Achievements:• Increased throughput of final design packages by 50%, including achieving the completion of 150 as-built packages per week.• Reduced Telstra application rejections by 80%. This was achieved through appointing a new and dedicated Quality Engineer to maintain responsibility towards Telstra’s compliance and guidelines.• Successfully reproduced and re-wrote company procedures for safety in design.• Reduced build costs nationwide through the concept of unique headframe designs, with ground-based equipment installation and testing, and following lengthy consultations with clients and internal build/field teams.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, I helped assure structural designs met Australian and Optus’s standards, completed high quality designs on time and to specifications, had an instrumental involvement in writing Optus’ tower specifications, monitored and trained Junior Engineers, including nurturing and developing their structural design and telecommunications knowledge, and developed a suite of standardised design solutions and headframes.Key Achievements:• Secured savings of tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary tower strengthening works. This was achieved through developing and promoting cutting edge computer simulation techniques used in other industries, and more.• Achieved cost savings of up to $20k per site in additional crane hire and on-site costs. This was done through the development of unique design solutions and mounting frames, while eliminating working at height safety concerns.

Service Stream is a locally owned public company, deriving revenue from the provision of network services to the telecommunications industry. The company employs approximately 2,400 people, operates in Australia, and is administered by its head office in Melbourne, Victoria.As a Regional Design Manager/Senior Structural Engineer, I was responsible for managing the allocation of design work among internal and external teams, ensuring forecasts were met, and delivering high quality and reliable design output with zero errors in extremely tight timeframes.I was also involved in a number of key projects for the business, managed and developed a team of Structural and Design Engineers, delivered design packages for Telstra, recognised the need for initial training for Design Engineers, supervised and mentored all new Design Engineers, and delivered feedback to designers as part of their professional development.

The Bosporus bridge project was based in Istanbul in Turkey; 2 very large suspension bridges which carry traffic between the continents of Europe and Asia, as the only link in that location.
