Oversaw the Department which functions as a financial consultant to a network of 45 independent career insurance agencies with 1,800 licensed sales representatives. Developed a uniform, consolidated compensation grid for network-wide sales force. Formulated an equity and succession program for sales agents. Established a loan program to finance agency expansion. Served on Loan Committee. Reorganized department resulting in annual savings of $200K.

Managed the accounting department for a Business Unit which manufacturers and distributes $8 billion in variable and fixed annuities, college savings plans and managed account platforms. Charged with daily pricing and unit value calculation for $50 billion investment platform. Headed sales reporting and profitability analysis for all distribution channels – wirehouse, regional brokerage, independent financial planners, and banks. Contributed significantly in evaluations of potential acquisitions, including a major insurance company; wrote analysis which became required reading for due diligence team. Served on Steering Committee for John Hancock integration. Headed product development effort for Strategic Allocator variable annuity. Structured and managed joint venture relationship with regional broker-dealer. Wrote the proposal and served as the lead relationship person in creation of private label annuity product with a major money manager.

Created and managed the new product development team for the Allmerica Financial Services business unit. The product development team’s objective was to design and develop new life insurance and annuity products for the Allmerica career agency system, Allmerica Select broker-dealer channel, external mutual fund partners and banks. Led the market research used in design of new products. Developed database of competitive information. Worked with internal clients and external partners on development of marketing programs and literature, collateral materials, product positioning and direct marketing strategies. Formed joint ventures with and developed products for several internet annuity marketplaces. Developed more new life and annuity products than any other company in the industry.

Supervised the accounting department for a Business Unit which manufactured and distributed variable annuities and life insurance. Worked on the conversion from a mutual to a stock insurance company. Promoted to Chief Financial Officer of the Business Unit in August of 1995. Directed mutual fund performance reporting. Met with and made presentations to Wall Street analysts and rating agencies on a regular basis. Completed a successful acquisition and subsequent integration of Financial Profiles, a leading financial planning software company. Served as an officer of Allmerica Financial Corporation, Allmerica Investment Trust, and a Financial Operations Principal for Allmerica Investments, Inc. broker-dealer.
