Goal was to design a better dry prime diesel portable multipurpose pump than was currently on the market. The pump needed to be more efficient, able to do a wider range of applications, have reduced down time and maintenance costs, and have higher reliability. I used an idea I stole from Apple, " think different" and found a different dry prime system, worked with their engineer to design the InstaPrime pump for the US market. All pump components and either patented or our unique design and made in the USA. I now have 12 patents on the pumps with more pending. . The pumps have fewer parts, smaller better designed package on a high speed high way trailer that ships in half the space. Wear life if 50 time competitors, with an high CFM priming system allowing the pump to be used to pump sand and abrasives, thicker slurries, run wellpoint systems using half the fuel. The improved seal design is warrantied for life from failure due to wear. Good ideas from competitors and customer input played an important part in our design and continued improvement. The higher efficiency allows use of engines with half the HP and keeps our prices lower that others.

I was the primary Sykes sales representative for Sykes Pump which changed distributors from factory direct, to purchasing Yeager pumps and changing the name to Yeager Sykes. Next MP pumps became the distributor, followed by Acme Pumps which lost the account in 1994. Our company was the distributor for a year when Andrews Sykes, UK took over sales until the sales dropped and they pulled out of the country. During this period our company sold 80% of the Sykes pumps and Sykes Pumps was the only pump line that the Cat dealers that rented and sold pumps marketed. We made the literature and price lists for the Sykes pumps and conducted the only national sales meeting. After loosing the opportunity to sell the Sykes pumps, Acme sales dropped to not being a player in the US market and Sykes sales dropped resulting in their closing their US office.

I worked one shift in the engineering development department. The design engineer designed impellers from wood models, tested them and made changes using his years of experience in designing to improve impeller design.
