Dr. Munroe received his doctorate in 1989 from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester (advisor, Dr. Alan Jacobson). For his thesis work, Dr. Munroe studied translational regulation and the role of mRNA binding proteins. He went on to post doctoral work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (advisor, Dr. David Housman) where he pioneered the development of integrated mapping strategies for the positional cloning of human disease genes. Following his postdoctoral work, he joined Genos Biosciences (a Sequana Therapeutics / MSKCC joint venture) where he served as Director of Genomics. While at Genos Biosciences, Dr. Munroe applied genomics strategies to early molecular profiling efforts for the identification of prognostic and diagnostic markers in cancer. Following this he moved to Digital Gene Technologies where he developed automated molecular profiling platforms. Dr. Munroe then joined SAIC-Frederick as Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Technology within the Advanced Technology Program and oversaw a variety of genomics core services and technology development efforts. In his current role(s) as Director of Technology Development and CLIA Director for the Advanced Technology Program at SAIC-Frederick, Dr Munroe coordinates molecular diagnostics and technology development in a wide range of disciplines including genetics, genomics, proteomics, protein expression, analytical chemistry, protein chemistry, and imaging.
