I have had many years of experience in higher education, mostly at the University of Glasgow but also in other universities during sabbatical periods and when giving invited courses or when spending periods abroad for research collaboration. Institutions involved have included the University of Southern California, Vienna University of Technology, the University of Ljubljana, the Czech Technical University in Prague and California State University, Chico and IAE in Brazil (Instituto de Aeronautica e Espaco).I continue to be actively involved in reasearch, especially in the areas of experimental modelling and model validation and also inverse simulation. The work on inverse simulation involves collaboration with colleagues who are full-time members of staff at the University of Glasgow. These include Dr Euan McGookin and Dr Douglas Thomson. The collaboration also involves staff at California State University, Chico. Recent applications have been in train performance modelling and especially in the use of inverse simulation methods for power-train design issues in hydrogen fuel-cell/battery-electric hybrid rail vehicles.I am author of three books. The first of these was on "Continuous System Simulation" and was published by Chapman and Hall in 1995. My more recent book was published in June 2012. entitled "Modelling and Simulation of Integrated Systems in Engineering: Issues of Methodology, Quality, Testing and Application". Publication is by Woodhead Publishing, Cambridge, UK. The most recent book is on "Testing and Validation of Computer Simulation Models" and was published by Springer, Cham, Switzerland in 2015.Specialties: Current research interests and activities are as summarised above. Teaching is now confined to invited presentations or short courses as a visiting lecturer in other institutions.
