For example, for a foreign company to gain a 5 year exemption from export taxes, they must have $1 million baht deposited in a Thai bank, they must build their new developments in impoverished and underdeveloped regions, and they must hire a certain number of local workers, among other things. As a summer associate, I attended a variety of American Chamber of Commerce meetings focused on emerging issues in Thailand's foreign investment laws. As one of the few native English speakers at my firm, I was responsible for drafting email correspondences with the general counsels of Volvo and Procter & Gamble, as well as several other major western companies. Additionally, I had the opportunity to both write and review major investment contracts on behalf of those clients. -
