I am an experienced and skilled teacher of history and have led a successful department at Walderslade Girls’ school for the last four years. I am passionate about history and love sharing my passion for this with the students through their lessons and school trips that I have organised. As well as teaching history, I have also taught RE, Geography, Maths, Psychology and Law. Since 2021, I have taken on the additional responsibility of leading and co-ordinating the training of secondary teachers in their placement schools in the South East of England.I have gained a wide experience in a range of different settings, teaching across the range of ages and abilities. I have learned many different strategies to encourage all students to participate and access the learning and I work hard to develop exciting resources to engage students of all abilities. I always try to bring the subject to “life”, and often use narratives to “hook” a child’s attention at the start of a topic. Moreover, I believe that students should be supported in their learning by being given opportunities to experience history outside of their classrooms. My pastoral roles within school have included being Head of Year 7, Head of House and form tutor. These positions have meant that I have extensive experience overseeing after the welfare of students, co-ordinating responses with internal colleagues, external agencies and of course, lots of involvement with parents and carers. During Covid, I undertook a level 2 qualification in Understanding Autism and with my own son having SEN, I am keen to develop this side of my teaching so that I can better support students who struggle to engage with mainstream education.
