I am involved in Sky Factory's global research initiatives and professional content development for our Continuing Education courses for the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Patient Experience Institute (PXi) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) among others. I am a member of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA) and a research fellow at The Center for Conscious Design. I am also a member of The Center for Health Design and the National Association of Science Writers (NASW). I’ve contributed feature articles to Work/Design Magazine, Radiology Today, and Commercial Real Estate Technology, plus co-authored research articles for Conscious Cities Journal, Conscious Cities Anthology, Human Spaces, and Salus Journal.I've presented Sky Factory research at the Royal College of Physicians during the European Healthcare Conference (2018) and the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (2020, 2018), at the Salk Institute.Our partnerships with professional researchers, leading universities and hospitals explore the restorative effects of biophilic illusions of nature on patient health and well-being. Our team seeks to advance meaningful conversations about the nature of enclosed interiors, the mechanics of spatial cognition, and how our habits of perception yield important clues that allow architectural illusions to yield therapeutic and productivity benefits. Sky Factory peer-reviewed research has earned a Design & Health International Academy Award for Best Research Project (2014) and the company's Luminous SkyCeilings are the only products of its kind to have earned a Jury Award from a panel of international architects, interior designers, and creative directors (2014 Architizer Award).Our pioneering fMRI study, Neural Correlates of Nature Stimuli, earned a 2017 Certification of Research Excellence (CORE) by the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) for its methodological rigor and its impact on practice-based design. And Planetree International, a leading patient advocacy organization, awarded Sky Factory its prestigious Scholar Award (2017) for meaningful contributions to advance the enhancement of the patient experience.
