The University exhibits annual revenues approaching $660m.Responsibilities, Duties and Achievements:Design, develop and roll out inaugural Course / Program Viability / Costing model via ABC costing methodologies. The primary aim of this major project was to create a view of individual Course / Program Revenue, fully absorbed costs, margins and net profits to an institutional level. Incorporating some 2300 courses rolling into 380 programs, multiple data sources, multiple costing option methodologies, this exercise was quite complex. Initially the costing methods had to be devised, documented and consented to by a large stakeholder group. Next I developed a pilot Excel based model incorporating the necessary calculations and costing methods utilising data from several University systems. Severe Excel limitations saw the adoption of a cube-based solution “ACE”. Here I communicated the costing methods and reporting requirements to an external vendor and played a major role in developing the ACE modeling solution. This solution now offers the University a real understanding of its product profitability and the underlying drivers and operating issues.Yearly calculation of overhead cost allocation rates incorporating several cost drivers and acquiring and cleansing the supporting data.Ad-hoc analysis e.g. Campus viability analysis where revenue and cost data had not been systematically captured. Monitoring forecast, actual and budget reporting and adjusting forecasts where necessary.Assist in creating the yearly budget including devising and implementing a much improved budget process. Designed and was in early days of testing an ERP (Navision) based solution to reduce the time and effort spent on this monthly task from 1 week to around a day per month.Ensure sales invoicing raised in accordance with contractsAssist with preparation of monthly financial reports – complete by 15th of each month.Constant project invoice forecasting for cashflow purposesSystems administrator for Navision ERP including security maintenance, user help, suggest, monitor and control development across all modules and liase closely with software solutions provider (Liveware Solutions).Designed and configured job ledger (20 major projects and 150 service contracts) data alignment with general ledger.Designed and configured job ledger security (20 major projects and 150 service contracts) so that jobs moved through “phases” throughout the lifetime of the contract.
