Much more than counting beans and a monthly P&L and Balance Sheet, a commercial accounting professional with a difference. Coupling contemporary theoretical perspectives with a depth and breadth of hands on industry experience I aim to create, develop, fine tune and administer any SME management information system. Working hand in glove with management to define appropriate financial and non-financial measures then meshing human resources with ICT and software will see the production of timely, accurate, relevant information that fits the strategic imperatives of the business at the lowest cost possible. My portfolio of industry knowledge, from project /service contract management, not for profit, retail, transport, bulk fuel and oil distribution, food processing, engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, education, motor vehicle dealerships to tourism and ICT sees my mind open to solutions available from divergent MIS contexts. The varied roles throughout my career including Financial Controller, Systems Accountant, Projects Accountant/Internal Auditor, Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Accountant / Administration Manager, Accountant/Systems Manager means that I can draw on a number of disciplines to see that SMEs maximise MIS returns whilst demonstrating corporate compliance and asset stewardship.

The University exhibits annual revenues approaching $660m.Responsibilities, Duties and Achievements:Design, develop and roll out inaugural Course / Program Viability / Costing model via ABC costing methodologies. The primary aim of this major project was to create a view of individual Course / Program Revenue, fully absorbed costs, margins and net profits to an institutional level. Incorporating some 2300 courses rolling into 380 programs, multiple data sources, multiple costing option methodologies, this exercise was quite complex. Initially the costing methods had to be devised, documented and consented to by a large stakeholder group. Next I developed a pilot Excel based model incorporating the necessary calculations and costing methods utilising data from several University systems. Severe Excel limitations saw the adoption of a cube-based solution “ACE”. Here I communicated the costing methods and reporting requirements to an external vendor and played a major role in developing the ACE modeling solution. This solution now offers the University a real understanding of its product profitability and the underlying drivers and operating issues.Yearly calculation of overhead cost allocation rates incorporating several cost drivers and acquiring and cleansing the supporting data.Ad-hoc analysis e.g. Campus viability analysis where revenue and cost data had not been systematically captured. Monitoring forecast, actual and budget reporting and adjusting forecasts where necessary.Assist in creating the yearly budget including devising and implementing a much improved budget process.
