Dr. David Nickerson is Distinguished Professor in the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. He conducts applied and theoretical research in property economics, real estate finance, real and financial asset valuation; the economics of catastrophes, and financial economics and public policy.Prior to joining the faculty at Ryerson, Dr Nickerson was a Senior Economist in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Marshall Bennett Chair in Finance and Real Estate at Roosevelt University, Deputy Chief Economist and Principal Economist at Freddie Mac and a Senior Financial Economist at the Office of Thrift Supervision. He has also held positions as senior economics advisor to the National Economic Council, the Institute of Economics and National Assembly in Vietnam, and to the Jiangsu and Hunan Research Institutes in China (PRC). He was a professor and permanent faculty member of economics and finance at Colorado State University, the University of British Columbia, Duke University and American University in Washington, DC. He has been an Erskine Fellow at Victoria University of Wellington (NZ); a Research Fellow at the Federal Reserve Banks of Kansas City and St Louis; a consultant to the Center for Naval Analyses and US Department of Defense and an advisor to the board of directors of Century Bank of FloridaHe has published over forty research papers in academic and practitioner journals and two books on financial markets in developing economies and presented his research at numerous seminars and conferences. He has also been a member of the editorial boards of three academic journals, and a referee for the National Science Foundation, the National Academy of Sciences, the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (Canada) and numerous academic journals, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, and the Journal of Economic Theory. Dr. Nickerson holds a PhD in economics from Northwestern University (1982).Specialties: Asset valuation; credit risk; financial economics and public policy; economics of environmental catastrophes; & quantitative methods in finance and economics.
