Responsible for business planning, continuous improvement and objective development, resource planning, risk management, operational execution and regulatory compliance. Staff 200, plus 250 contractors through maintenance contract. Operational budget $140m. Capital spend directly responsible for $40m.Area covers dams and bulk water transfer, drinking water treatment, sewerage transfer and treatment, and recycled water production for the greater Melbourne region, supplying services into the retail network. Also provides works planning and scheduling, contract management and performance management into our waterways and catchments business unit.

• Providing direct & strategic leadership of the operation and maintenance of Melbourne’s bulk water supply system (grid) including major dams, service reservoirs, treatment plants and transfer network enabling a safe and reliable supply to metro and non-metro retail water companies: o Building an aligned and engaged team delivering 24/7 safe site operations, maintenance and upgrades (personnel 70 direct operations team and approx. 200 indirect maintenance, construction & supplies) Generative safety culture and wellbeing including through COVID pandemic (resourcing plans) Consistency and continuous improvement through an effective integrated management system Annual Business Planning and Strategic Direction including operational reliability & resilience o Ensure water supply meets Regulatory, Bulk Water Supply Agreement and Guaranteed Service Level conditions to customers o Deliver efficiency of operations while appropriately managing risk Operating Revenue ~$880M and Expenditure budget ~$40M per annum Facilitate capital growth, improvements and renewals ~$140-170M per annum Energy efficiency and resource recovery optimisation through mini-hydros • Leading cross functional strategic improvement initiatives leveraging data analytics and automation to optimise water operations • Melbourne Water operational leadership representative for key Melbourne future water strategies including provision for climate resilience

Provide direct & strategic leadership of the Eastern Treatment Plant (350 ML/D sewage treatment plant including advanced tertiary treatment) to ensure: o Aligned and engaged team delivering safe site operations, maintenance and upgrades (approx. 200 people including direct operations team, asset management & planning teams, maintenance and construction contractors) - Generative safety culture pursuit - Annual Business Planning and Strategic Direction - Annual Operating and Delivery Planning - Monthly business unit reporting - Day to day management of maintenance and low risk capital programs o Plant meets its EPA license and provides Class A recycled water to customers o Major Hazard Facility license is maintained whilst continually improving risk identification and control effectivenesso Efficiency of operations while appropriately managing risk - Operating budget ~$40M per annum - Capital improvements and renewals ~$50-100M per annum - Energy efficiency and resource recovery optimisation
