    Meta Feb 2022 - Feb 2023
    Menlo Park, Ca, Us
I was recruited to the Ecosystem Solutions Team team to pioneer a new strategy/direction for the broader connectivity team involving deep technical collaborations with service providers. The first joint solution was deployed nationwide by Tier 1 CSPs, resulting in improved video QoE / engagement for Meta's applications and an IETF industry standard called SCONE (Standard Communication for Network Elements) that allows applications to gather information about network conditions to optimize performance. This project involved garnering support and respect from various Meta engineering and operational groups and partnering with CSPs and content providers. These unexpected success breakthroughs paved the way for a major strategic direction shift and global collaboration across the entire family of applications.
  • Meta
    Strategy, Product & Partnerships Lead
    Meta Jan 2019 - May 2022
    Menlo Park, Ca, Us
I joined Meta Connectivity to overcome barriers to Internet access in underserved areas (e.g. Brazil, Peru, Pakistan, Indonesia, Zambia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, DRC, etc.) This included both demand-side (awareness, relevance, readiness) and supply-side interventions (network, device) that helped bring more people online. We not only helped to build and deploy telecom networks but also pioneered new business model innovations such as neutral-host Infra sharing and village-led digital ambassadors. While at Meta, I co-chaired the TIP's Network as a Service (NaaS) Solution Group---a precursor to the NHIS PG, a global collaboration hub for launching Neutral-Host business model deployments. Neutral-Host is a business model innovation that maximizes infrastructure sharing, MNO competition, and Internet Adoption while minimizing regulatory oversight.

Nokia Bell Labs Sep 2010 - Aug 2012
    Murray Hill, Nj, Us
(Nokia later acquired Alcatel-Lucent and Bell Labs) I was hired as the GM of the SaaS/cloud venture business at Alcatel-Lucent Ventures. We pioneered a novel video delivery system (when mobile data was sold in buckets), enabling mobile streaming video's first mass-market offline/offpeak viewing by optimizing RAN (Radio Access Network) scheduling. This spawned today's viral offline viewing of mobile video content (e.g., YouTube Offline) for developing and developed markets. We could see a resurgence of this solution as the saturated mobile industry searches for new revenue streams.

We built a $2B OEM channel infrastructure business selling to tier-one mobile operators (Verizon, Sprint, KDDI, America Movil, Telefonica, etc.). We represented one of very few mobile infrastructure start-up success stories. We built macro and micro (small, femto) base stations, controllers, and management systems. We quickly expanded the portfolio and grew the customer base to 70 mobile operators capturing a 65% market share through a direct sales model. Our dynamic network optimization node defined a new category/node in the network and led to network innovation through monitoring/analytics. My takeaways were 1.) the value of vision and road mapping with the largest customers, 2.) the importance of product planning and mix, and 3.) how perseverance can uncover great product leaps. Financed by Benchmark Capital, Trident Capital, and Orange Ventures.
