I carried out a project focused on understanding the mechanisms by which NSAIDs act against cancer cells.Our lab recently identified a novel mechanism for aspirin-­‐induced apoptosis of colorectal cancer cells that included the multifunctionalprotein NPM, an abundant nucleolar protein that has manifold functions.The main aims of my project are then:-­‐Understand the role of SUMOylation, a post-­‐translational modification involved in various cellular processes in the NPM apoptotic pathway andthe mechanism of RelA and p14ARF in that pathway.

Summer 2010 ­‐ InternshipJune-­‐August at Children’s Hospital of Boston (Boston, MA) (Teaching affiliate of Harvard university). Supervisior: Dr. Marc Andre Wurbel Gastroenterology/Nutrition and Immunology Department:I worked under the supervision of Dr. Edda Fiebiger and Marc Andre Wurbel, my main supervisor. The main goal in the lab was to better understand basic mechanisms that regulate the pathology of food allergies and study general issues of the molecular biology of immune recognition receptors and IgE-mediated activation of the immune system.

My principal aim was the diagnosis of infectious diseases by demonstrating the agent causing these infections in the biological samples collected from the patient.Using techniques like antigen detection, staining or direct display, cultivation and identification of germs, together with an anti-­‐ biogram,Legionella antigen, urine sediment, selective culture for Streptococcusagalactiae…among other techniques.
