I had my first encounter with materials science in 2017 during a University visit. During that visit, I stepped up to participate in a demonstration. The person demonstrating placed a thick piece of foam on my hand and immediately pulled out a lit blowtorch. He used the blowtorch to heat the foam until it glowed bright orange, but my hand felt nothing but a room-temperature piece of foam. From that moment I knew my path was materials science. I am now a fourth-year materials science and engineering student at the University of Central Florida preparing to graduate in May 2023. I currently work as an undergraduate research assistant studying the effect of varying bismuth content on the properties of lead-free solders. I am open to new opportunities in the materials industry and am always willing to learn about new materials or new applications of existing materials.
