In Nov 2006, TNT sold their Logistics division to Apollo Global Management. I was appointed VP Group Insurance and Risk Management and was responsible for arranging all insurances for the group globally. In Aug 2007, Apollo also bought Eagle Global Logistics, a large US based Freight Forwarding company, and merged them with the TNT Logistics business to become CEVA. My role was expanded to encompass the new, larger company. In addition to arranging the global insurance programs (both program design and placement and in conjunction with our global brokers) and ensuring the local insurance policies are fit for purpose, I also work closely with all areas of the business to ensure that risks (both insured and uninsured) are managed and mitigated as far as possible. To this end I work closely with out global legal team to ensure liabilities within customer contracts are carefully reviewed and negotiated to the best advantage of CEVA. We also have numerous projects on the go at any given time to drive operational excellence through the business and reduce the risk of loss occurring. My role includes working with all areas of the business from the Executive Board down through the organisation and reporting and presenting at all levels. I successfully implemented a global risk management system that is used for claims management and for the annual collection of underwriting information. I assist the cargo claims team (based in Houston) with complex or challenging claims and where negotiations or discussions are required with insurers to agree an acceptable settlement.

TNT had been one of my accounts at Marsh and I accepted the offer to switch sides and work for TNT. Initially I was responsible for the insurance and risk management of TNT Logistics in the UK before being asked to take responsibility for the Logistics division globally, becoming part of the global insurance and risk management team. This involved regular dialogue with all the countries within the division to understand all the risks of the Logistics division and present these to the Group Risk Manager to ensure the insurance cover was adequate to cover the insurable risks. I was also responsible for the implementation of the group Enterprise Risk Management process within the UK business.
