Profile bio

About David Orians

I graduated from Tufts University last year with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Through my engineering career I've learned that I love working on practical, hands-on projects that have a real world impact. I've also developed a strong passion for using Solidworks, 3D modeling, and physical product fabrication which allows me to exercise my creativity when approaching the design process. While at Tufts, I made an effort to focus on learning about sustainability and renewable energy technologies. I found that this is a field of study that I am passionate about and I strongly believe that it is important to take steps to tackle the severe climate issues facing us. The best way to approach these issues is to work together with people from various disciplines and backgrounds, and this diversity of thought and approach in engineering inspires me to think more broadly about these global challenges. During my time at Tufts I took multiple technical classes in the theater department that strengthened my technical and project skills. These classes helped me gain a broader perspective on how to approach design and problem solving. Recently I've begun to really appreciate how these technical theater skills overlap with my career as an engineer and I'm looking forward to finding ways to mesh those two interests. I find that I have a lot of passion for being able to apply practical skills in a creative context. Most recently I was a Mechanical Engineering Intern at a local air conditioning startup called Transaera. During my time at Transaera, I worked on a variety of projects, from engineering design to mechanical assembly. I led the design, construction and validation of various internal testing rigs. This position required a wide range of engineering skills, and I was able to hone my talents in a variety of fields. I learned how to work as a part of a fast paced innovative team tackling novel challenges in the field. This position was a great opportunity for me to learn more about my field of interest and take steps forward with my career.
