Recent projects:- Dryer modification for optimization. Capex of £4.5 Mn delivered over a 14-month timescale. This involved the redesign of the AHU resulting in a 90% capacity improvement within the same floor footprint.- Upgrade and relocation of Film production system. Capex of £3.75 Mn over a 10-month period. Relocate an aging process line to Czech Rep. and upgrade automation to increase capacity by 40%.- Installation of automated Gel system. Capex of £4 Mn and completed in 12 months. Development and installation of automated system replacing existing manual system. Resulted in improved food hygiene process and labour reduction.The primary focus of this position is to manage and execute business investments to support the key strategic direction of the board. This includes additional capacity, improvements of process efficiency, development of new technology \ process, etc. Preparation, submission and discussion of Capex documents and budgets with the board explaining, in simpler terms, the benefits, risks, methodology and timeline.With project capex ranging from £4Mn to £12Mn annually there is a significant responsibility to ensure success both financially and on time. Working closely with financial, procurement, HR and engineering resources, the execution of the plan is closely monitored. Reporting to the Stakeholders through regular meetings and written reports updating them on, progress, issues and mitigation, timeline and budget is a significant demand. In this role I was responsible for the coordination of the engineering resources across the 5 manufacturing sites and a global team involved in strategic investment and development (approx. 40 engineers). Liaised with senior group and site management teams to agree and execute investment plans across the globe for delivery. Provide direction for Tier 1 research projects looking at next generation processes \ technology for new products and cost saving activities. Worked on the development and implementation of a Global Project Management Process to standardise project delivery within the company. The final solution was cloud based providing live project status information on delivery, finances and technology. Undertook a review of group operational performance with the aim of reducing unit cost of manufacture. This was a 5-facility evaluation focusing on performance, processes, manning, quality, technology and energy. Findings will be used to focus on both resources and capital investment over the next four years to achieve group savings of approximately £8 Mn. Assisted in the development of engineering personnel in relation to business technology, financial implications and CPD for professional development. Advised both Devro and external colleagues on the application for Chartered Status.

Recent projects:- Design & construction of new facility in China. Capex of £65 Mn and completed within a 3 and half year timeline. Responsible for aspects of design from building and utilities through to the process and equipment. Significant relationships with consultants and general contractorsThis position had two main functions associated with it, the first for the execution and delivery of strategic company research, development and investment projects. This covers all aspects from initial design/testing/evaluation, product/process performance, financial preparation through board approval and then to execution and delivery. Included in responsibilities were design, project planning, management of resources, financial control, reporting, scheduling, troubleshooting and handover to the local business unit. The second was ensuring that process technology developed at each business unit was evaluated, documented and communicated to all units across the group. This required regular communications with the local teams at all units in the group providing direction on development, implementation, evaluation, preparing business proposals. This included process development, capacity improvements, machinery reliability, automation and energy reduction projects. Projects included managing the design, construction and commissioning of a £65 Mn manufacturing facility in China. This encompassed the design of the facility from concept through to saleable product manufacture. A key function of this role was the management and direction of a mutli department/function team to achieve the operational unit infrastructure and processes.

Reporting to the Technical Director, I was responsible for all aspects of engineering within the two Scottish facilities. This involved strategic discussions/decisions on capital investment, the research/development of new products and processes and the design and testing of custom designed equipment. These responsibilities were achieved by effective management and development of engineering departments that report to me.I was responsible for strategic investment programs which have recently included a £15 million retrofit/technology improvement of part of facility upgrade and a FEED for a new production facility in China. This included full financial, technology and resource planning / responsibility with report to the Devro plc board of directors. For larger projects this involved compliance with CDM regulations.I was responsible for financial reporting of departmental spend for development, strategic and replacement projects along with delivery timescales and anticipated effect on manufacturing output. Preparation of capital investment requests were a key part of this position, ensuring the financial, technical and resources are available to maximize the return on investment for the company.I ensured that all equipment, process and design work complies with current EU directives and UK regulations. The use of British Standards and development of internal specifications was essential and training of reports and engineering staff was a continuing process. Development of documentation and a process for self-assessment of CE marking.
