Shetland Gas Plant (Shetland)

Duties include:* Approval of applications to undertake civil construction works.* Compiling and presiding over Live Services in conjunction with the commissioning department and Permits to Work. I was entailed with coordinating all excavations and ensured the correct information was in the permits.* Analysis of temporary work requirements for installation of services and production of appropriate design solutions or approval of designs by others, this was for both civil and temporary works.* Soil investigation (geotechnical earthworks, roads etc.), stability calculations (piling, foundations, concrete, etc.) and structural support (structural steel) design where required.* Inspection of on-going work, particularly civil works. At times I had to liaise and advise our Civil/Structural superintendents.* Production or approval of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).* Involved with the creation of all Temporary Work documents.* Provided training for site staff and operatives.* On-site Health and Safety checks.* Verifying manufacturer’s design of temporary office accommodation blocks, and general temporary works.* Involved with Permanent design, specifically with the security fence.* Responding to general engineering technical queries from sub-contractors. This meant I had to keep constant contact with all parties involved, i.e. Subcontractor and Client.* Involved with permanent design, specifically the security fence. This included liaising with our CAD department to create drawings that were then approved for construction.

Shetland Gas Plant

During this placement I was seconded to various departments. These included:* Field Engineering – Responding and assisting to technical queries, this had me liaising with Petrofac Sarjah.* Planning – Designing a simple method with which to record and track poured concrete and concrete planned to be poured.* Document Control – Organising construction drawings to enable ease of access for construction team.* Contract Management – Assist with contractual issues between Contractor, Sub-Contractor and the Client.* Quality Control – Ensuring that quality standards of concrete reinforcement for foundations were an acceptable quality.* Health and Safety – Tasks were assisting with tool box talks, administration, and daily onsite inspections to reduce risk of potential incidents.* Higher Management – Worked with the Site Manager and managers in all the departments to create a power point for the client review.
