Utilising atomic force microscopy to establish the molecular and mechanical properties of conditioner molecules at a surface interface.

Investigated the mechanical properties of healthy and degenerate intervertebral disc (IVD) tissue, under compressive and tensile loading. Utilising an explant culture model of IVD tissue to explore the ability of native IVD cells to migrate into a novel hydrogel, and promote bone formation and mineralisation within the IVD.

Employed by Imperial College London but based at The University of Sheffield, I investigated the mechanical properties of a community-acquired methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) bacterial strain, and a range of mutants, using atomic force microscopy.

Investigated the mechanical properties of the Staphylococcus aureus cell wall using atomic force, and transmission electron microscopy.

Using confocal microscopy, I studied the reversible translocation mechanisms of aquaporin proteins from the cytoplasm to the cell membrane in a variety of primary and secondary mammalian cell-lines. During this time I also contributed to, and became an author of a published review of human aquaporins.
