As a passionate advocate for the built environment, David is a firm believer in how good design can enhance our lives and contribute to wellbeing in the public realm. David has worked in the architecture and property industry for over 15 years, in small, medium and large organisations. He brings a well grounded and holistic approach to his clients and industry colleagues. During David’s time working in architecture, he has been involved in the end-to-end phase of varied projects. From bidding, competitions, tendering, concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, sub-consultant coordination and contract administration. He is skilled in using architecture software within the Autodesk platform such as Revit, Autocad and BIM. Additionally, David has experience using Rhino and Grasshopper for parametric abilities and is an advocate for modern technologies to communicate design such as 3D printing, visualisations, VR and CLT. David completed his MArch coursework with high distinctions under the mentorship of thesis advisor RAIA Gold Medallist Architect Lindsay Clare. A highlight during this time was undertaking additional studies at Tokyo University of The Arts in Japan with previous QLD Government Architect Michael Keniger and RAIA Gold Medalist Brit Andersen, with a focus on the Japanese vernacular and the Machiya-House. This deep foundation has given David a broad understanding of designing within the landscape, creating a spatial narrative and building to a sense of place.Additionally, David has experience working in property managing mixed-use commercial portfolios for developers and investors. This cross-sector experience has given him a unique understanding of the two disciplines and how they correlate. He is an ASA Industry Education Advisory Committee Member at Bond University, Committee Member for Gold Coast Open House and has held previous Committee positions at the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter as part of EmAGN and SONA. During David's time at BVN, he worked on submission bids, locally, nationally and internationally, which included but not limited to competitions, company capabilities tailored for clients, request for tenders, request for quotes, request for price, expression of interest, & presentations. Each project involved the tailoring and co-resourcing of key personnel that would be included as part of the key design team which was co-created with the Studio Director and Principal in-charge. This experience and exposure gave David hands on experience and an understanding of the "business of practice" for one of Australia's most highly awarded and recognised national practices. -
