Most people think they are funny, and some of them are insane enough to add their names to the list at open mics and tell bad jokes they read on a website I would have said with confidence was College Humor 5-8 years ago but I am way too old to keep up with the zeitgeist. Anyway, if you want to *learn* how actually to be a comic, I can teach you. I develop and deliver curriculum targeted at the complete novice and newly started comics. There's nothing like the feeling of pride I get when I host a graduation showcase and the folks that could barely make eye contact in week one are strutting up and down the stage as if they were born to tread those boards. I did it and it changed my life. The verdict is still out on whether comedy has been a net positive 😅

I both perform in and produce standup comedy at Stomping Ground, a vibrant community of improvisers, sketch writers (I dabble) and all kinds of funny folk. I'll do club or private engagements within the DFW area and even wider for the right opportunity. I'm an expat Brit who's lived in Texas too long and has gone full Big Tex. Just trying to navigate through work, life, family & friends as best I can, looking for those sweet, sweet laughs.

I have been co-teaching a course on Chapter 11 Bankruptcy with my good friend, mentor, and law partner Sander Esserman since 2010 (we did Creditors' Rights once and it wasn't in our sweet spot). My favorite part of the job by far is setting and grading exams. It's way more difficult than you thought in Law School, but the game is definitely worth the candle. I taught the class with three students this year and we had a blast. We learned seminar style, from each other, discussing the law and working through the practical applications. I always brought doughnuts (hat-tip to Jaram's of Lakewood for that, btw) and wrote an exam with a fact pattern that should make them laugh, or at least somewhat emote, when they read it 😅

My practice focuses on complex commercial bankruptcy law, where I have counseled and represented both debtors and creditors, court-appointed official committees, and bankruptcy trustees. I have also (with others from my firm) developed a specialty practice counseling personal injury settlement trusts (formed by bankruptcy debtors with mass torts liability to provide a continuing means of resolving personal injury claims after their emergence from bankruptcy). I maintain a bankruptcy appeals practice, and also undertake general litigation & appellate engagements from time-to-time.I also provide legal counsel to a variety of non-profits. Six years as Chancellor (General Counsel) of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, and nearly two as General Counsel to and a Board Member of Stomping Ground, the baddest Comedy Theater / Training Center / 501(c)(3) in Dallas. Charitable organizations need to know how to navigate through the rocky shoals of the nonprofit world, and I can handle any of your legal needs in this area, I have appeared as counsel of record in Federal District Courts throughout the United States, as well as the United States Supreme Court and the Second, Third and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal.

Half a lifetime ago, I put off going to college and worked as a management trainee & then entry level admin manager for 4 years before heading to law school. Looking back, I wouldn’t have done it any other way.
