Irish Institute Of Sport

The Pursuit of Excellence Programme (PEP) is a professional development program for elite coaches in Ireland. I lead the Horizon strand with 16 national coaches, working at senior and developmental level in a number of olympic sports. The role involves bespoke programme design based on an individual needs analysis with each coach. The programme incorporates various CPD modalities including mentoring, workshops, masterclasses, problem based learning tasks and group mentoring.

Working as both High Performance Director and National Men's Team Head Coach I developed high performance structures (including Talent Development, Talent ID and Sports Science) with Irish Hockey liaising with the Irish Sports Council, Sport Northern Ireland, Irish Institute of Sport, Sports Institute of Northern Ireland and the Olympic Council of Ireland. Our funding during this period increase four fold.As Coach to the Senior Men's team our ranking improved from 23rd in the world to 17th , winning the Euro Nations Champs in 2005 and with notable victories over world Champions Germany and ranking tournament results against highly ranked opposition such as Pakistan, Spain, Argentina and England. I also coached Team Ireland at the first World Youth Olympics to fifth place.

I worked with English (and British Hockey) for six years during which time I fulfilled a number of roles including High Performance Manager for the Junior development programmes U16/U18/U21 and England B, coaching the U21 team through most of this period. I work as academy coach to the South and South East Centres which included nearly a half of all the international players at that time.

Taught in three schools with a variety of teaching, management , curriculum leadership and extra curricular sporting responsibilities.
