These range from mainstream school children to excluded children from the pupil referral unit. I ensure transport is ordered and provided by a range of external suppliers/operators within the county. My responsibilities also including obtaining tenders from prospective or existing providers to satisfy changing needs and these can be required at any time during the year. I was also responsible for the annual review and evaluation of the forecasted scale of need. This includes forward planning with respect to school leavers and new starters which involves calculating the most cost effective routes for each group and organising appropriate transport for the following academic year. The day to day duties often call for rapid changes and crisis response and in this respect an essential part of my job is to deal quickly with these to ensure continuity. This can be for many reasons for instance, ad hoc issues regarding client needs or supplier failures, a taxi being late or not turning up at all or perhaps children bullying (physical or verbally). There are many other issues that may arise but due to the nature of the work there are by necessity tight deadlines to meet to ensure the safety and security of the pupils I have also attended the equality and diversity course provided by Surrey County Council. In my day to day work I respect people’s beliefs, cultures and disabilities ensuring that everyone is treated the same. This can involve providing larger font for someone who is partially sighted, speaking to a representative when someone has poor or little English, or ensuring that the necessary access is available to people with disabilities ensuring that everyone is treated as an equal, improving services, promoting best practice, striving to close the gap and reduce inequalities in outcomes for people.
