I like people. Always have and hopefully always will. That love of people has driven my career. My first job was going bed to bed at the Mater hospital selling newspapers, listening to people's stories and discovering their interests. I spent years working in my Dad's pubs, listening to the interesting stories of ordinary people. After graduating with a Commerce degree from the University of New South Wales, I worked as a marketing coordinator for 3M, selling video and audiocassettes. I then took the dramatic step to toss in my promising commercial career to pursue my ambition to work for ABC Radio. Community radio, regional radio and eventually almost 10 years working for ABC Radio Current Affairs and ABC Radio Sport first in Sydney then Canberra. We, my then girlfriend now wife and business partner Anna, started contentgroup in 1997. The plan was to combine my marketing and journalism skills with anna's content and production skills. While it was a good idea in 1997, technology was still some way off so i headed into professional rugby first with the Brumbies then the World cup winning Wallabies.contentgroup's mission is simple. "To help government and the public sector strengthen communities' and improve the well being of citizens through effective communication". And mostly that comes down to finding and telling good stories so our clients achieve their objectives.

My job was to manage the brand and communication of the team from its first day. These were my dream jobs. I had always wanted to work for ABC Radio Current Affairs and when I landed the job, I was the happiest man alive. It was a great time working for the most important news organisation in Australia. The job allowed me to talk to interesting people everyday, tell great stories and explore ideas. The Sports job was great fun. Again, great people, great stories and great ideas. I value my time as a journalist. It taught me to write, to be accurate and precise and to listen. -

I had worked briefly in South Australia for the redoubtable KG Cunningham as his producer on his afternoon program but that lasted only a couple of months. My time with KG did however did teach me the value of perserverance. When you chase talent, you chase hard and never give up. Wollongong was my first news reporter role and it was a great place to learn the ropes. Court reporting, political reporting, sports reporting were all part of the daily challenge.

Communication Co-Ordinator3M Mar 1984 - Jul 1987St Paul, Mn, UsI worked in the consumer products division looking after audio and video cassettes. It was a time of the great battle between VHS and Beta. Our Scotch branded tapes were the highest quality on the market but we were involved in a fierce price war as all the big tape manufacturers battled for market share. I had the best boss (David Henderson) and I learnt alot about the value of listening and strategic planning. It was a great start to my career.
