Past ProjectsShamblr: 2014Lead a team in indexing and analyzing 10% of tumblr users. we used reblogs, notes, and likes to build a graph of tumblr users.. I was responsible for building the crawler itself as well as design and implementation of a graphrank algorithm to rank tumblr users based on their connections, and my teammates built interesting visualizations from the resulting data. python/matlab/postgres were used for this project. most of the code can be found on github The team page: (https://github.com/ShamblrTeam)Graped.me: 2014For CatHacks 2014, worked with my partner to create a program that took a search term and downloaded a number of videos from Vine, and then, using ffmpeg cropped the video to the last second (thus the term grape) and combined them together to create a compilation. My teammate Nick Graczyk set up a website that stored all user created grape compilations, provided a way for users to create grape compilations, and curated some of the better grape compilations.python/flask/ffmpeg was used for this project, and an unofficial api for vine was created as well.Code for the compilation generator can be found at (https://github.com/dpenning/Grape)SameBoat: 2013 - 2014SameBoat was a social network that helped you find other people that were also new to an area. I created mocks and early versions of the website using PHP, MySQL and Javascript.UK Solar Car battery telemetry monitor: 2013The solar car team need a way to visualize the heat/voltage/capacity of their 40 battery cells. For this I used pyserial to communicate with BPS boards outputting battery values over a serial interface, and then visualized the data and provided notices for overheating cells using pyqt.
